7. Firewheel Tree
(Stenocarpus sinuatus)

Further along from the Queensland Pittosporum or Holly Wood, on our left you will find a Firewheel Tree (Stenocarpus sinuatus) with its distinctly lobed leaves and spectacular wheel-like clusters of red flowers in autumn. It is a medium sized tree naturally found in subtropical and warm temperate rainforests in northern NSW and QLD. In cultivation, protection from frosts and wind exposure are necessary when young and plenty of water is required in summer.

Firewheel

“G’day mate, my name is Sten, Stenocarpus. I am a firewheel tree, I come from up north, Queensland, you know.”

Transcript
The Firewheel tree: "G’day mate, my name is Sten, Stenocarpus. I am a firewheel tree, I come from up north, Queensland, you know. But happy to be here with my mate Brad the flame tree. We are mates for life. We call ourselves the red hot fire brothers. We love hot sunny days, heavy metal music and we love camping. We love fires, not being on fire, not like a bush fire just like a gas camp fire. Being with your mates, watching the stars, wind in your leaves, a bit of music and a nice barbie, perfect!"
