Join us for a special open edition of Radical Book Club.
Celebrating the opening night of Write Around the Murray (WAM) festival, audiences are invited to attend the September session of MAMA’s monthly book club program.
Our September title is Personal Score by Ellen van Neerven, a featured WAM 2024 author.
Ellen van Neerven shines a light on sport on this continent from a queer, First Nations perspective, revealing how some athletes have long challenged mainstream views and used their roles to effect change not only in their own realm, but in society more broadly.
A book that weaves history, memoir, journalism and poetry, Personal Score: Sport, Culture, Identity received the Victorian Premier’s Literary Award for Non-Fiction, 2024.
This event is open to anyone who has read or is interested in this book.
Radical Book Club invites a cohort of radical readers who meet monthly at the museum to reflect on selected titles that challenge conventions and norms embedded in society. Radical books and authors encourage readers to become aware of current societal challenges or inequalities and to contemplate alternative futures.
