Helen Newman

Based in Albury Wodonga Helen Newman is an award winning Australian filmmaker and video artist. Drawing on an eclectic background of classical piano, crisis counseling and community development she has worked in the arts for the last 17 years establishing a reputation for delivering a wide variety of powerful stories told in unique and engaging ways.

Helen’s work has taken her around the globe and into a broad range of situations: war zones, refugee camps, ancient cities, urban and remote communities. Her collaboration with a variety of performance, visual and sound artists have resulted in a varied collection of multi-platform, site specific and performance-based works.

Helen’s documentaries have screened on ABC TV, ABC iview, NITV and at a range of national and international film festivals.

Her expanding creative practice in VR, 360, animation and projection mapping allows Helen to explore fresh approaches to the art of visual storytelling.
