Monday 17 May 2021

The annual AlburyCity Short Story Award returns to Write Around the Murray in 2021, with entries now open for 3,000-word stories on any theme. First prize is $1,000 cash and the competition is open to entrants Australia-wide.

“Our writing competitions give students and writers the opportunity to showcase their talent, refine their skills and engage as part of the writing community” says Festival Director, Ann-maree Ellis.

“Entering a writing competition is a great way to challenge yourself and put yourself out in the world as a writer. We’re encouraging you to be free in your creative thinking and to share your best writing, for your chance to be in the running for some great prizes.”

Whether you’re an aspiring or experienced writer, now’s your chance to put pen to paper and test your writing skills, with the 2021 AlburyCity Short Story Award. Entries are now open.

Winners will be announced on Thursday 16 September 2021, during Write Around the Murray festival.

Entry fee: $10
First prize: $1,000
Closing date: 5:00 pm Monday 26 July 2021
Judge: Jock Serong, author of The Rules of Backyard Cricket and On The Java Ridge.
